SMS Equipment continues to grow its Underground operations and is seeking Underground Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technicians to join our team in Kamloops, BC.
In this role, you will use your technical expertise to support Komatsu underground equipment, with a strong focus on safety, customer fleets, and hands‑on work across a range of underground heavy equipment and attachments. Base Wage: $52.31 per hour, plus applicable premiums*
Location: Kamloops, BC
Schedule: 7x7 or 14x14*
*This position may start on a 5x2 shift for training purposes and then will transition to 7x7 or 14x14.
This position is located in Kamloops, BC; however, travel will be required to various customer sites throughout BC and travel to other provinces will be required for training purposes.
*Other assignment-based premiums and allowances may apply.
What You’ll Do:
- Perform full overhauls, diagnostics, and repairs on underground drifters - primarily Montabert and will also work with Sandvik and Epiroc.
- Perform assemblies, preventative maintenance, repairs and complete overhauls on underground heavy equipment and attachments.
- Use measuring tools and precision equipment to assess wear, tolerances, and overall equipment condition.
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized or other testing equipment and provide recommendations on the extent of repairs.
- Support underground operations by troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on mobile and stationary mining equipment.
- Complete new equipment pre-delivery inspections, paperwork and options installations.
- Complete service reports, timecards, warranty claim documentation, procedure creation and maintenance as required.
- Travel to customer sites as needed.
Work Environment:
- This position will be required to work in confining underground environments at customer sites.
- This position may work remotely in adverse conditions.
- This position will be required to travel to customer mine sites as required.
- This position will be required to travel for training.
What You Bring:
The successful candidate will have a Heavy Equipment Technician Journeyperson certificate and experience working with underground mining equipment. Equivalent combinations of education and shop-based experience may be considered.
Other requirements include:
- Experience in underground equipment repairs and overhauls.
- Troubleshooting experience with electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
- Strong awareness and attitude towards workplace health and safety, including understanding and complying with all requirements.
- A commitment to maintaining and promoting a safe work environment.
- This role may involve lifting up to 50 lbs and requires being comfortable working in confined spaces.
